Happy Birthday America! We sure did celebrate ALL weekend long!
We had such a good weekend. Mike had Friday off but, he had CDO duty so although all he HAD to do was stay on base and do colors, he worked some that morning. Sully and I went and hung out with him at work. We cleaned his office and then went back to his room to watch movies and order pizza until it was time to take the American flag down. Sullivan wanted to watch so we stayed and watched. He thought the music was so cool. I love to see my hubby march and salute. It does not happen often. I get a kick out of all the formalities of the military. Anyway, Saturday we went to the beach with friends and after a long day at the beach, some boogey boarding, castle making and Mike's Harder Lemonade enjoying, we headed to the Virginia Beach Front for Beach Street USA. You would think we were a bunch of tourist. We should have known better than to go on a holiday weekend. It was a zoo. We had a good time anyway...ate pizza, saw the star wars characters and the kids played in the sand. Oh and did I fail to mention that Mike and Ann had been enjoying libations all day so...they were really having fun! I love to see my hubby get loosey goosey! It does not happen often. He and Ann were too funny!
On Sunday we went to church. Had a wonderful service about Freedom. They did colors and we all did the Pledge of Allegiance and sang Amazing Grace. It was good. Very American. Sullivan once again did not want to go to Sunday School but this time we made him. (Last week he sat with us, this is a new church for us) He had a wonderful time and as we were leaving he looked up at me and said the sweetest words ever, "Mommy, I love church!"
After church we hurried home, packed up our stuff and headed out for festivities. We went to my friend Kerry's house for a birthday celebration for Ryan. Wish I had the pictures Kerry took. Maybe I can add them later! Hint Hint Kerry! The kids had a blast and of course we did too! I was the weekend DD and loved it! Seeing so many good friends in one day was awesome! We were bound and determined to see fireworks so we then headed back to Ann's parents house to follow them to see the firework show. We sat on the beach and the kids played until it was dark and we were all a glow with glow sticks and then the fireworks started. At that moment, time stood still for a moment for me and as much as I missed my family on this amazing holiday, I am so grateful for the wonderful friends I have met here in VA. I really have so much to be thankful for. We ended up hanging out at Ann's parents house for several hours, drinks, and smores later... Finally we had to leave and the night needed to end. We were tired.
Then it was Monday, re-coup day as I like to call it. We cleaned house, went to the pool for a little bit and then had the Ann and Rich and family over for dinner. Very casual...fill your belly and relax type dinner. We were all exhausted from our wonderful weekend celebrating this grand ole USA. God Bless America! He sure has blessed me!
