Take me out to the crowd.....
Thanks to Subway we took the chil-ren to a Norfolk, Tides Baseball game! They are the farm team for the Orioles! It was a blast!!!
Subway had a meal deal: Buy 4, 6 inch meals and get 4 regular tickets to a Norfolk Tides Game. Perfect for us. We did the $1.50 upgrade to box seats and we were set. We arrived WAYYYY too early so we left and came back and we were still the second family in line. :) Oh I forgot to mention, it was free jersey night for the first 2000 kids. By babies were getting a jersey! The players were supposed to be signing shirts so we had our sharpies in the diaper bag. We were ready!
I have not been to a minor or major league baseball game in years, if ever. I was so impressed! When we got it there was a 4 man band made up of 70 year old men playing music in the stands. Very festive. Clowns, all American food, face painting, etc... It just made you feel good. At one point I looked at Mike and said, "I feel like I should be drinking a beer. Feels like I am on vacation!"
I can not say enough about the entire "show". Their patriotism was amazing. Two Wavy 10 news anchors showed up and landed their helicopter in center field. Then another USNAVY helo showed up and hovered. They dropped a rope and about 10 Navy Seal came down bearing guns, rolling through the grass etc... It was awesome, especially knowing that that is a glimpse of how they got Osama Bin Laden. Then that helo flew over and dropped an American flag down a rope and circled the field with it as we sung Our National Anthem. It was just so neat. So patriotic and not even a holiday. I loved it!!!
The game was fun! It was good and went into 13 innings. The Tides unfortunately lost but at that point we were thrilled it was over. The kids did the kids base run after the game and we left! A wonderful family night out! The 1 and only disappointment is that the players were no where to be seen before or after the game so there were no autographs. Oh well... The kids crashed in the car and slept in their jerseys.
