Did you feel that wiggle?

August 23, 2010
We were sitting on the couch, Mason in my lap and Sullivan playing at the coffee table, half way watching TV, when the house started to "wiggle".  It felt like a huge gust of wind that really rattled the house or like a black hawk was landing on the roof but there were no signs of any such thing.  Sullivan was sure it was a "twister".  I assured him it was not but, I was clueless.  Earthquake popped into my head and quickly left...  I did not know what was going on.  Sullivan ran to me and grabbed my leg and the "wiggle" stopped.  We were scared.  We walked outside.  It was a beautiful day.  Not windy.  Beautiful blue sky with puffy white clouds.  Picture perfect.  Clear.  No helos, no twisters, no large pressure washers held to side of house...  We walked out front, the same.  Weird.  Not a person in sight.  The only logical answer I could come up with was a large gust of wind but if that is what is was then there is something wrong with our house.  I went inside to call Mike and noticed my satellite was out.  Mikes phone rang busy.  I knew something was wrong now.  I felt like I was on a really bad sci-fi movie.  I called Mom and as she was answering the phone our satellite came back on and across the TV was,

A 5.8 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HAD ROCKED VA.

Holy mother of pearl.  An earthquake in VA.  Where???  As Mom answered I told her I was freaking out but trying to keep calm.  I told her what happened.  She turned on the news.  Mike beeped in and I breathed a sigh of relief.  We watched the news together learning the facts and being so thankful that it wasn't worse.  It was scary but all was OK, at least in our area.  We experience our first earthquake.  When Mike got home the first words out of Sullivan's mouth were, "Daddy, did you feel that wiggle?"  And when we put him to bed he said, "Mommy, I do not want to feel another wiggle tomorrow.  OK?"  Me neither buddy,  Ne neither.
Simply.  Adore.  This.  Kid.
