A Gem of a Park

OK, so maybe it is about 25 minutes away but....The Newport News Park is fantastic!  I was asked to do a photo shoot at this location and just knew it would be a great place for a family day!  So, last weekend we decided on a whim to check it out.  We had such a nice time.  We drove the main street through the park looking for deer, down to the golf course where I had to wipe the drool off Mike's chin and then back stopping to check things out along the way.  We walked over a bridge through a swampy area, watching turtles swim.  Then we went to the boating area and rented a peddle boat for 30 minutes at only $3.18 and peddled around the lake for a bit.  Sullivan thought that was awesome.  Mike and I, not so much.  But for $3.18, well it was worth is.  After checking things out, we let Sullivan play on one of the large parks they have out there.  There are quite a few parks and most are in the shade.  He climbed the climbing wall like a champ and went down the tube slide, something he has never been fond of.  We left this part of the park and ventured out to check out the camping area.  While there we finally spotted deer!  Mike only sees deer when he is not in camouflage and doesn't have a gun.  Once he puts his hunting gear on, he won't see a thing.  Pinky swear!  We watched them a bit and then our day was done....  It was a lovely day and now that we know this little gem is here....we will be back!  You should too.
