We welcome with love Mason Michael Curti

On September 4th, 2010 we (as well as family and friends) welcomed a screaming little bundle of joy into our lives.  Mason was born at 1:16 am, weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces, 21 1/2 inches long, head of dark hair and a scream that said he was the boss!  It was a beautiful experience filled with so much love and joy and some painful contractions, at least for me!

Mason's Birth Story
I was scheduled for an induction at 8 am on Friday Sept 3rd.   Pop and GG were here and Alla and Anna were driving up Friday morning to try to make it before he was born.  However, due to Hurricane Earl a lot of pregnant women went into labor and the Labor deck was full so...we waited.   We were excited knowing Allison and Anna would be here in time so we were not too upset.  I was instructed to have my routine NST (Non Stress Test for baby) on Friday if it looked as if I may not get induced on Friday.  So, at 2 pm Mike and I went in and had it done.  As we were leaving we stopped by L&D just to see if we could get an idea of when it may happen and L&D was packed.  They did not know but assured me they would call me.  We left the hospital thinking it would certainly be Saturday morning.  We headed home to see Allison and Anna and relax until we get the call.  Not 5 minutes away from the hospital the call came in.  I was instructed to eat something light, pack my bags and come in when ready.  There was a bed waiting for me.  I was immediately emotional and nervous and reality was setting in.  We were going to get our baby boy.  We got home and GG, Pop, Allison, Anna and Sullivan were all waiting for us and were so excited!  We packed our bags, chatted a bit and headed up.  Mike and I headed up to get checked in and then they were coming after we were settled in.  It was a nice drive in, talking about how our life was going to change, holding hands and enjoying a few minutes of quiet.  When we got there we went straight to L&D and checked in.  After paperwork and waiting they finally called us back.  Hooked me to IV for fluids and eventually pitocin, did a quick ultrasound to make sure he was head down, checked babies heart rate, checked my cervix and asked 5000 questions.  I was 3 cm station was -3 and 50% effaced.  I had a wonderful nurse and doctor.  We were left in the room for about an hour and I started having contractions on my own.  Not terrible, but the first one was 8  minutes apart, second was 7 minutes apart and third was 6 minutes apart.  My body was so ready.  I had been having on and off again contractions for about 3 weeks now and it was ready to do the job God made it to do.  They took us to our delivery room and I got goosebumps walking in.  The baby isolet/warmer was there and all ready, warm and all.  My nurse got me all settled in, we talked some and at 8pm she started the pitocin.  She said my contractions needed to be 2 minutes apart and strong.  With in 5 minutes we were 2 minutes apart and my pain level was going up.  The pediatrician came in, the anesthesiologist came in and then the crew arrived.   The kids were so excited to be there.  Dad was amazed at the machine measuring my contractions and Allison and Mom were like 2 little kids in a candy shop!  Minutes after they got there I was in pain.  I had to tee tee so, the nurse got me up and helped me to the bathroom.  Once there she left me and a contraction started.  It was a big one and the first one I had experienced standing up.  I had to hold onto the sink, brace myself, breath and KNOW it would end in a second.  Just as it started to subside my water broke.  It was exactly like dropping a water balloon.  I heard the pop and the splash and was soaked!  The nurse came and rushed me to my bed because she wanted to make sure his cord was not lower than his head.   All was fine but in 2 minutes I had gone from 3 cm to 6 cm.  WOW!  I was hurting.  Bring on the epidural.  It felt like it took him forever to get there.  I was terrified I would go so fast and have to do it without an epi.  Finally he got there and everyone was kicked out while he gave me the epidural.     I hate getting them but...so worth it once it is in.  Contractions felt better except in one spot and all the turning in the world would not get that one spot to be controlled.  This epidural was different than the one I had with Sullivan.  I could move my legs and had control just felt no pain.  With Sullivan I had jelly legs and NO control over my legs at all.  I was a littel nervous I could feel too much but my nurse assured me I would feel and it would be OK.  She was going to talk me through each and every step.  About a half hour later I felt a little pressure and got nervous.  She said I would feel a lot of pressure and would know but I did not "know".  However I asked her to check me again.  You should have seen her face.  She walked out, got the doc and the doctor came to check me.  I was there.  10 cm. and ready to push.  WHAT????  So they decided to try a test push.  All went well so we started the pushing part.  Three pushes per contraction and in 3 contractions he was here!  Sept 4th at 1:16 am.  It was amazing!  No pain, just relief like I have never felt before.  Mason was born screaming and laid straight on my chest.  He was precious!  He grabbed my finger and held it before the umbilical cord was ever cut.  I am so glad that I held him so early.  What an experience.  As soon as they got me all cleaned and stitched up (1 stitch :) ) we brought the kids and Dad back in.  They were all so excited!  It was such a wonderful start to a day!  I was so blessed to have my room full of people who love me to share in this exciting time.  Mike and I are truly blessed with the best friends and family ever!  I could not ask for more.   I am so happy to have our little guy here and that he is healthy!  Thrilled that Sullivan and Anna are so happy to have a baby brother.  Grateful and blessed to have Allison, Mom and Dad here for help, support and love!  This is a lucky little guy and I can not wait to experience his life with him.  Welcome to the world "baby Mason"!  We have loved you since we knew you were coming but now, our hearts are so full and our family so complete!

They were amazed!   Sullivan's first question when Mike told them he was here was, "Is mama's tummy flat now?"  Hum...not quite, but flatter.
The happy G.G. and Pop!  So happy they were able to be there!
Alla has now been there for both of my boys to be born!  I am so lucky to have her as a friend and so blessed that she loves my kids the way she does.
