The first day was not too bad. I thought we would be sad all night and the first day would be tough but, it was fine. When we got home from the airport our sweet friends, Ann, Samantha and Dominick came over with dinner and a box full of goodies and cards as well as hugs! Just what we needed. Plus they understand. Their daddy/hubby is gone right now too, for his 3rd year deployment. Mike made is safe and sound to Atlanta and then to Gulf Port. The only issue was a pounding headache. Otherwise smooth sailing. Knowing he was safe and sound meant the world to us. This is when the frustration kicks in...
When he got to the airport there was not a shuttle (as he was told there would be) so he had to pay for a cab. They dropped him off at the place to get his paperwork and key to his room to find out that his room was quite a walk away. He had 3 bags and all 3 were quite heavy. Not to mention it was 10:30 at night and you could not see the numbers on the buildings. When he got there he had a roommate who was asleep. He had to go down the hall to get his linens and was told they were out of pillows. Then he had to makeup his bed and settle in my the light of his cell phone. The bathrooms are community baths and he was supposed to bring his own towels. Would have been nice to have been told this info. He has a twin bed in his room, no TV, no microwave, a very small fridge and a roommate but plenty of closet space. There is always a silver lining. (feel the sarcasm??) The silver lining here is that it is only for 27 days. Yes my friends THIS is how our military is treated. I am sick by it. After 18 plus years of service and he can not even relax in his own room. Just another part of the sacrifice.
Anyway, school is kicked into full gear. Today they did land navigation and were dropped in the woods to find their way out with only a compass, at night. I can not wait to hear how it was.
As far as the home front we are good. Sullivan wakes every morning saying he wishes Daddy did not have to go but, he is doing fine. We will make him proud. We can do this.
We are in touch with a friend in Bahrain who is giving us the scoop. Sounds like we will have steady contact, even on missions, which makes me happy. Just hearing his voice makes my day.
Time is passing, not too slow and not too fast. Time is passing.
